Boxing is a combat sport in which two participants of similar weight fight each other with their fists. Boxing today is conducted in a regulated way, typically in a series of one to three-minute intervals called rounds. Victory is achieved if the opponent is knocked down and unable to get up before the referee counts to ten seconds (a knockout, or KO) or if the opponent is deemed too injured to continue (a technical knockout, or TKO). If there is no stoppage of the fight before an agreed number of rounds, a winner is determined either by the referee's decision or by judges' scorecards.
Beginner Boxing
Our Boxing practices consist of conditioning, footwork drills, heavy bag work, focus mits and sparring. Our regular Boxing classes are not meant to be a "cardio" boxing like those found in other gyms. We train real Boxing for real Boxers who are looking for a fun way to stay in shape and compete in local events. We are currently working on securing our status as a certified USA Boxing gym. That status should be complete by spring 2010.
Required gear includes shorts, a t-shirt, mouth guard, hand wraps, gloves and athletic supporter. Optional gear includes boxing shoes and additional sparring gear.
Executive Boxing
Would you like to train like a fighter but with a reduced chance of injury? Many individuals are interested in training like a Boxer or MMA Fighter, but because of age or line of work can not accept a higher level of injury. Trained at the same time as the regular Boxing classes, Executive Boxing gives many of the the benefits of the normal Boxing class but without the sparring. Get in shape while having fun!
Required gear includes shorts, a t-shirt, hand wraps and gloves. Optional gear would include boxing shoes.
Advanced Boxing
Take the skills learned in Beginning Boxing and crank it up a notch with sparring and ring control drills. Advanced Boxing is meant for those interested in competing in Statewide Golden Gloves and Silver Gloves competitions.
Required gear includes shorts, a t-shirt, hand wraps, 18oz sparring gloves, and headgear. Optional gear would include boxing shoes.
Day and evening practice times are available. Be sure to take advantage of our TWO FREE WEEKS OF TRAINING for all potential new members. Start with no cost and no obligation.
