Submission wrestling (also called Grappling or submission fighting, and technically referred to as submission grappling) is a wrestling style and a general term describing the aspect of martial arts and combat sports (without kimono/GI) that focus on clinch and ground fighting with the aim of obtaining a submission using submission holds.
Grappling (Wrestling style) brings together techniques from Freestyle Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Folk American Wrestling (Catch-as-catch-can), Judo and Sambo. Submission grappling as an element of a larger sport setting is very common in mixed martial arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu no-Gi, Pankration, catch wrestling, shootfighting, shooto and others.
Grappling can be trained for self defense, sport and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition.
Submission Wrestling
This class is recommended for everyone who is first starting at the Grappling Club. These classes focus on the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The fundamentals are a necessity for anyone looking to compete or fight in mixed martial arts. And for those who are looking at training for physical fitness and/or self-defense, the lighter pace of the beginning class give you a chance to secure a strong foundation before moving on to the more difficult rolling classes.
Required gear includes shorts, a t-shirt, and athletic supporter. Optional gear includes a mouthguard and wrestling shoes. Classes are currently being formed. In the interm, Submission Wrestling can be trained during the Advanced Jiu-Jitsu classes.
